Handanleikar: A solo sound experience with super-8 presence. Within the exhibition Sound Fields -An overview of Icelandic sound art in the National Gallery of Iceland.
Inspired by a report from one of the first gatherings of Tilraunafelagid in 1905. This was a small group of scientists and poets who hosted seances in Reykjavik over the course of seven years marking the first tinkerings with spiritism in Iceland. The group demonstrated a fascinating creativity in the experiments it conducted during these gatherings. Their purpose was to scientifically prove life after death and they went for it in the most playful way, employing trumpets that hovered in thin air and primitive fluorescent paint.
Various light phenomenons appeared, first like luminous sparkles here and there around the meeting room, some small, others big and colorful. Haraldur once counted 58 of them in one meeting. A gust of wind was often the premonition of these light phenomenons so that the hair on people’s heads would move as if in a storm.
