KITE SYMPHONY I | GARDSKAGI I 2006
Gardskagaviti, Iceland.
A sound happening directed by Kira Kira & Finnur Ragnarsson.
Concept inspired by Marta Gudrun Johannesdottir.
This was quite a spontaneous happening by the lighthouse on the Gardskagi peninsula in Iceland. People were invited to come and build their own kites. Then small send-microphones were attached to them and the sound signals became a symphony on a mixer by the lighthouse playing through a PA in a small circus tent as well as through lo-fi FM radio transmitters on the audience’s car radios.
Some people attached sea shells and all kinds of trinkets to add to the sound.
Of course the hand made kites had quite lo-fi flying potential which resulted in them crashing to the ground or on the lighthouse with quite an interesting sonic effect.
